In this article, I will give you an overview of the game's gameplay, walkthrough, multiplayer, secrets, and my personal opinion on why it is still worth playing today.


Gameplay




F.E.A.R. is a first-person shooter that features several common guns, projectiles, and game mechanics. The most notable of which is "reflex time", a slow motion technique that allows players to aim and shoot in real-time while everything else moves in slow motion. This gives the player an edge over the enemies and creates spectacular bullet-time effects. The game also features a semi-destructible environment and a highly detailed particle system that enhance the immersion and realism of the game world.


The game's enemies are mostly human soldiers that belong to Fettel's army of clones. They are armed with various weapons and explosives, and they exhibit intelligent behavior and tactics. They will use cover, flank, communicate, retreat, and even throw grenades back at the player. The game also features some supernatural enemies, such as ghosts, apparitions, and Alma herself.

The player can replenish health by using medkits that are scattered throughout the levels or dropped by enemies. The player can also replenish armor by picking up armor vests or helmets.


Walkthrough




The game's single-player campaign consists of 11 intervals (levels), each with its own objectives and challenges. The game also features several cutscenes that advance the story and reveal more about the characters and the plot. The following is a brief walkthrough of each interval:


Interval 01: Inception




This is the introductory level of the game, where the player is introduced to the F.E.A.R. team and their mission. The player will learn how to use reflex time, weapons, grenades, melee attacks, and other basic controls. The player will also encounter their first enemies and witness their first paranormal event.


The level begins with a cutscene showing Fettel killing his captors at an Armacham Technology Corporation (ATC) facility. The F.E.A.R. team is then briefed on their mission to apprehend Fettel at an abandoned building where he is hiding with his clones. The player takes control of Point Man, the newest member of F.E.A.R., as he arrives at the scene with his teammates Jin Sun-Kwon (a forensic expert) and Spen Jankowski (a veteran operative). The player follows Jankowski into the building while Jin stays behind to secure the perimeter.


The player will encounter some resistance from Fettel's clones as they make their way through the building. Along the way, they will find some intel items that provide more information about Fettel's background and ATC's activities. They will also experience some strange visions involving Alma Interval 02: Initiation




This is the second level of the game, where the player will explore more of the abandoned building and encounter more enemies and paranormal events. The player will also learn how to use the flashlight, lean, and zoom.


The level begins with a cutscene showing Jankowski being attacked by Alma in an elevator. The player then wakes up in a different part of the building, separated from Jankowski. The player will have to find their way back to him while fighting off more clones and avoiding Alma's apparitions. The player will also find more intel items that reveal more about Alma's origin and ATC's experiments.


The level ends with a cutscene showing the player reaching Jankowski's location, only to find him missing and a pool of blood on the floor.


Interval 03: Escalation




This is the third level of the game, where the player will escape from the building and pursue Fettel to a nearby warehouse. The player will also encounter new enemies and weapons, such as the ASP Rifle and the Heavy Armor.


The level begins with a cutscene showing Fettel escaping from the building in a van, while the F.E.A.R. team tries to catch up with him. The player then takes control of Point Man as he exits the building and fights his way through the streets, encountering both clones and ATC security forces. The player will also witness some more paranormal events, such as bloodstains appearing on walls and corpses disappearing.


The level ends with a cutscene showing the player reaching the warehouse where Fettel is hiding, only to be ambushed by a helicopter. Interval 04: Infiltration




This is the fourth level of the game, where the player will infiltrate the warehouse and confront Fettel for the first time. The player will also encounter new enemies and weapons, such as the VK-12 Combat Shotgun and the Replica Assassins.


The level begins with a cutscene showing the player surviving the helicopter attack and entering the warehouse. The player then takes control of Point Man as he fights his way through the warehouse, encountering more clones and ATC security forces. The player will also find more intel items that reveal more about Fettel's motives and ATC's secrets.


The level ends with a cutscene showing the player reaching Fettel's location, only to be knocked out by him. Fettel then reveals that he and Point Man share a psychic link, and that they are both connected to Alma.


Interval 05: Extraction




This is the fifth level of the game, where the player will escape from the warehouse and rendezvous with the F.E.A.R. team. The player will also encounter new enemies and weapons, such as the G2A2 Assault Rifle and the REV6 Powered Armor.


The level begins with a cutscene showing the player waking up in a dumpster, after being thrown out by Fettel. The player then takes control of Point Man as he makes his way out of the warehouse, fighting off more clones and ATC security forces. The player will also witness more paranormal events, such as Alma appearing in various places and causing havoc.


The level ends with a cutscene showing the player meeting up with Jin and Holiday (a helicopter pilot) outside the warehouse. They then board the helicopter and fly away, while Fettel watches them from a window. Interval 06: Interception




This is the sixth level of the game, where the player will chase Fettel to an underground facility and encounter a new enemy type: the ATC Black Ops. The player will also encounter new weapons, such as the RPL Submachinegun and the MOD-3 Multi-Rocket Launcher.


The level begins with a cutscene showing the player flying in the helicopter with Jin and Holiday, while receiving a transmission from Rowdy Betters (the F.E.A.R. team leader) and Norton Mapes (an ATC technical officer). They inform the player that Fettel has taken refuge in an underground facility that houses a secret project called Origin. The player then takes control of Point Man as he jumps out of the helicopter and lands on the roof of the facility. The player then fights his way through the facility, encountering more clones, ATC security forces, and ATC Black Ops. The player will also find more intel item
